My developmental preschool consists of 20 students who all qualify for specially designed individual instruction. The students in my classroom work on skills such as: adaptive/life skills, social and behavioral skills, and academic skills. Each day, community is built through activities set up during circle (songs, and stories), recess/gym time (during the rainy season), lunch, and small group activities. A large part of our day is centers time. This is a time where students can explore their interests and creativity with the variety of interest areas (..or centers) that are set up for them. These areas include: sensory table, dramatic play, blocks, and art. While at each area, my students practice several social skills (e.g sharing, waiting for a turn), developmental skills (carrying blocks, building with 2 blocks, building structures), and academic skills (counting, quantifying, letter identification, etc.).
