My students are Long-Term English Learners. That means that they are not fluent English speakers, readers, or writers and they have not transitioned to Fully English Proficient. They lack specific cognitive language acquisition skills to become Fully English Proficient. They struggle daily in English Language Arts classes to keep up with the at-grade-level reading and writing required of them. They want to improve and become proficient in English; however, the task is sometimes too daunting. My students are hard-working and they know that knowledge is power. The problem is that they don't have the literacy skills to make improvements in English language acquisition.
