They are inner city kids, attending an inner city school. About 95% of them are in free or reduced-price lunch, and 100% percent of them are minority (Afro American and Latinos). They live in areas that are considered some of the poorest areas in the whole United States. Some of them will be the first members of their family to attend college, and a lot of them are looking to face that challenge. Living in Florida, next to the beach, some of them have never seen the ocean. Our school is the second oldest school in the area. It dates back to the 1920's. It was the first school to attend to the Afro American population within three counties in Florida. Our staff is composed of professional, dedicated, full time "students first" as a priority, type of educators whose goal is to guide "our kids" towards a better, more secure, and "community participants" type of life. They are the future, they are the change that we are looking for in our hard hit type of communities. Be part of the change.
