My classroom is made up of 100+ 7-12 year olds. I am a first year STEM Teacher, formally a second grade General Education teacher. I teach in a high needs, title 1, school. Our school is new, fifth year in, replacing a school that has phased out (closed). My students are mostly from shelters or foster homes in the area, which are all riddled with gang violence, drugs and guns. This creates a very transient population for our school and a hardship on our dedicated staff. Our children have seen and experienced more in their short little lives than most of us could dream of in our worst nightmares. Despite this, I want to inspire them to BE better and DO better. The ability to open their eyes and show them that there is more out there in the world is my goal for this school year!
