I teach 3rd-12th grade music and band. My students come from low income families. Our school has a 90% poverty rate. Most of the parents and grandparents quit school to help out their families. Our community has a since of pride in hard work and dedication. The parents understand the importance of education. They want more for their children than they had. They push their children to be better and to work harder. My students are taught the importance of hard work, dedication, and compassion. We put our students first! We feel that everyone deserves a chance to learn! My students are intelligent, hard-working, and most of all caring! They do not receive many opportunities to explore the world outside of our small community. The one thing they love is music! My class gives them an opportunity to get out of the regular classroom
