This project gives the families the control within parameters set. Having a set of plays that are relevant to immigrant families will allow for parent/family engagement of learning in my classroom. Students will read the plays at home with families and document analysis via small writing assignments and short videos that are co-written with parents/guardians. Once this first phase of reading is completed, they will meet with me to decide if they feel comfortable sharing a counter-narrative family story that documents their stories as immigrants and English Language Learners. I have added bilingual editions for families to check out in the event that they do not yet read in English. The Canon camera lens will allow me to take video of whole families as they collaborate to share their immigration counter-narratives. After reading the literary piece, they could collaborate on family video projects to demonstrate their learning of the themes and literary devices. This will allow me to have activities for both parents and students to enjoy learning together.
