I have students in the 10th, 11th, and 12th grade. Most if not all of these students come from low income families and have never even been to downtown Houston. They are great kids that have had very difficult lives but regardless of this they want to succeed and make something of themselves. They are eager to soak up the Spanish language and realize how important it is to do so. Since we can't provide a computer for each student and we can't finance every child's trip to visit other countries, what can we do? We can incorporate the use of an iPad in the classroom so that they can reinforce the Spanish they already know and are learning. We can facilitate the use of a digital camera so that the students not lucky enough to travel can live out the experience through pictures. The camera will also be used to capture images of the culture throughout the year and as the different holidays come about!
