The classroom is comprised of students with severe and moderate impairments which causes them to be in a separate class (separate from the population receiving general education) each day. The students have difficulty with speaking, fine motor, gross motor, social, and self-care skills such as toileting. The students' curriculum is based on life skills such as following directions, recognizing their names, communicating using picture symbols, washing hands, feeding themselves, and building physical skills. Due to their disabilities, they have difficulty regulating their sensory needs and will often act out by hitting, screaming, crying, rocking, and more. The grant will help provide materials to teach them self-calming strategies.
