I work with special education students at a high school, 75% of my students are Hispanic and 75% are male. Our high school serves the largest population of students with free and reduced lunches. I would describe my students as resilient. My students completed an assignment that detailed their learning history, I have come to understand many of my students don't like school because of the experiences they have had in school up until now. Most of the time my students do not have access to the curriculum because of their disability and language barriers. Instead of praise and support, my student often are ignored or labeled as lazy. I am working hard to change my students perceptions of themselves and introduce them to the world, critical thinking and their potential through literature. My students are capable of success and it is my goal to create an environment that will inspire success in my classroom.
