My students are energetic, insightful and eager to learn. They come from a wide variety of backgrounds. Some are homeless, others are autistic and another group is learning English as a second language. Other students come from middle-class backgrounds. They come together to form a diverse learning community. Each student faces unique challenges. One challenge they share is learning to focus and pay attention during my teacher instruction time. The colorful carpet will help them concentrate on what they need to learn and continue to help them connect with and support each other. The colorful carpet also provides a space that will be their own special learning spot. Each child will be assigned a spot on the carpet that they will sit on each day. This eliminates the struggle that many young students encounter each day trying to find the best place to sit.
