I have the sweetest 1st through 5th graders on earth. My kids have various special needs that can make life difficult. They process things differently and sometimes it's hard to filter sounds, light, etc. at the same time. So they get frustrated and start acting out in the classroom because they don't know how to process all of the input. I teach in a school where at least 40% of the population is made up of disadvantaged kids. Many of them come from broken homes and CES is their only place for comfort and safety. After Hurricane Harvey, many of these students were displaced adding to their already high levels of stress and confusion. My goal is not only to educate these precious souls but to also provide a safe haven for them to feel wanted and loved. I've designed my classroom to resemble a home environment to aid in this effort.
