In a public school with a population around 3000 students and an average of over 100 students per P.E. period, (for both boys and girls), it can be quite a challenge to keep them active and interested in P.E. In order to provide a variety of activities for our students, we decided to offer smaller "elective" classes within certain P.E. periods. We polled our students in order to see what they would be interested in, and many of them chose soccer. You see, over the past few years we have had a big influx of students from countries all over the globe, many of which are third world countries. For these students, soccer (or football as they know it) is one of their favorite pastimes because all it takes is a ball and two goals. They aren't as connected to other sports because they simply can't afford the equipment necessary to play.
