What my voyagers lack in height (they're in Kindergarten), they make up for with their vibrant personalities and ambitions. They are like all wonderful children who yearn for adventure and enchantment, but the difference lies in their access to opportunity. All of my students come from low-income backgrounds and most of their parents can scarcely afford the most basic of school supplies. Furthermore, my students attend one of the lowest performing schools in our county and have no access to any enrichment classes. They are expected to learn to read at grade-level, yet they do not have access to the appropriate differentiated texts. Without access to differentiated texts it is easy for students to become frustrated and stagnant in their reading journey, creating a downward spiral of "catch-up" in the upper grades. Please help me give my little voyagers what they need and deserve.
