My students are a sweet group of first graders from a low income area. Most have parents who are busy working in the evening and who do not have time to sit and read with their children. My students are learning to love books and all the different places they can visit in a book. One of their favorite times of the day is right before we pack up when we have a read aloud. You would think eighteen first graders would be jumping up and down getting excited to go at the end of the day, but they are not. They sit riveted as I read aloud to them and often sigh when the announcements come on.
