Informational texts will be incorporated into my classroom to provide more material for my students to read independently for personal goals and to build interest, as well as to build a library for an access of texts to provide instruction. Students need access to a plethora of informational text features at an early age to provide instruction to develop students’ comprehension of informational texts (Duke, 2004). Instructional strategies will be incorporated into a high-quality content-area reading program that will provide teaching strategies to adequately analyze texts before reading, during reading, and after reading which incorporates effective writing to learn strategies. Students will be exposed to new vocabulary, text features, text structures, and genres that are implemented into informational texts (Duke, 2004). Becoming effective readers at a young age will increase the achievement progress and provide opportunities of reading to learn.
