They know what is to struggle, to work hard but just barely make a passing grade. If their name is called over the loud speaker, it's not to get praise for some achievement. They want desperately to complete the mandated requirements and graduate, to find an escape from their routine existence. This population is primarily low-income minorities and, although the school is in an urban setting, the local community is very supportive and prideful.
