Although my students live in close proximity to each other, their backgrounds vary. The community is on the outskirts of Atlanta and the school consists of minority students speaking diverse languages. Over 90 percent of them receive either free or reduced lunch, but their economic status in no way defines their zest for life. They are very outgoing and excited about learning, especially learning to play the instruments. Everything that I teach them, from the very basics, to more difficult selections, are taken on with the upmost attention and effort. For most of them, playing a stringed instrument is not something that their families are familiar with. However, once the students learn to play the instruments, everyone is very much excited and thrilled to hear the music that their child produces.
