I work with 6th, 7th & 8th grade students who struggle to read fluently, to comprehend what they have read, and to communicate their thoughts in succinct sentences and paragraphs. Our school serves a population that is made up of 60% military families, with a large number of low income families served too. These are great kids and hard-working families, but the transient nature of their lives has created areas of weakness in some of our students' reading and writing abilities. I am honored to get to work with these teens to help them be able to read more fluently and with greater comprehension as they develop skills and strategies they can use today and in the future. Imagine how scary and embarrassing it would be to go to middle school every day, knowing you could not read and understand the information as well as your peers. Many of our students have developed defense mechanisms to protect that information, and they get farther behind daily. You and I can help them stop hiding.
