As most of my students are English Language Learners who enter kindergarten speaking limited to no English, it is challenging to teach letters, sounds, and sight words in tandem with helping students to acquire the English language. Heidisongs, help assign the meaning students need to learn the skills. Last year, Heidi Butkus was able to visit our school thanks to another kindergarten teacher. The student responses to her singing and dancing were amazing. Students latch on immediately to her methods as she integrates singing, visuals, and kinesthetic learning into everything she teaches. This past year I was able to get every child in my classroom reading and writing by the end of the year at or above grade level. While this was rewarding, if we had Heidisongs to incorporate weekly into lesson plans I believe student results could be even higher!
