Enhancing the environment for budding learners simply means I need to make some modifications to better meet the needs of my students. I have two learning spaces in my library. I teach my Pre-k through 2nd graders in a space called "The Story Area". There are no tables and chairs. Students sit on carpet squares that are strategically placed a safe distance from one another. These squares are fraying and are coming apart. In addition, students use clipboards to work on activities. Unfortunately, these boards have the metal clip attached which is dangerous for little hands. Furthermore, each child is given a container of crayons to use for completing activities. Unfortunately, the container is too big. The kids rummage through them while I am instructing, causing it to be a distraction. The products I selected, will help my students have more comfortable seating on the floor and give them supplies that are safe and less distracting. Making sure students are comfortable is essential to keeping them focused during my lessons. Teaching can be a challenge when students are fidgety as a result of sitting on a hard floor playing with the strings from the carpet squares. The cushions will provide a more enjoyable learning environment not only physically but aesthetically. The calming colors were purposefully selected to provide a more tranquil atmosphere. The clipboards and crayon holders will equip my youngest learners with easy to use supplies. The clipboards I selected have a plastic clip that will not cut their fingers. The cups are small and can hold crayons in an upright position making it easier to choose their colors without digging through them. This project will boost my Story Area so my budding learners will have a more conducive environment in which to learn.
