I teach in a small, rural public school in Pennsylvania. Our district encompasses approximately 167 square miles and serves 1,878 students, approximately 610 in the high school. About 35% of our students are free/reduced lunch eligible. About 16% of our students receive Special Education services. I am proud to say that despite our higher than average poverty rates and special education population, our school has consistently beaten the odds by scoring above average on the Pennsylvania System of School Assessment(PSSA) tests and we were recently one of only 53 school in PA to receive a Bronze ranking from US News and World Report high survey among 21,000 high schools across the nation.
