My middle school students go home to an empty house. We live in a depressed area in Michigan where there is not enough funding for even the basics in our school district. Many families are low income. These kids need to experience the fun side of science and the teacher needs to have the freedom to teach about things that explode, fizz, smoke, and pop! Currently, these students only get the state required curriculum. This program will keep students safely in school for an additional hour, while building their interests in the field of science. My science club will meet for 10 times, once a week during the months November-January. I will be able to break from the state curriculum and teach science in a fun and interesting way.
