The great thing about my sixth grade students is their optimism and hope for a better life. I work at a school where 99% of students are coded as economically disadvantaged. My students have endured situations that I would have never imagined as a 12 year old. Yet, they still have dreams and goals of getting their PhD., joining the Marines, becoming an engineer, a teacher, a chef, and a lawyer. The other day one of my students wrote a letter to me. In the letter she said, "Mrs. T another reason why I rode this letter to you is because I expect you to teach me a whole lot about reading so I could be successful." As a teacher in a district where only 15% of students graduate from college, I feel an enormous responsibility to make sure that I equip my students with the proper tools to accomplish their goals and reach their dreams, basking in the sweetness of success.
