My students are mostly Hispanic from Central and South America. A great many of them have come to our country by way of "Coyote". These students have seen and experienced things that a child should never have to. Many are emotionally confused and have no one, but me, to help them sort out their new life. Understanding little or no English further enhances their confusion and frustration. Unfortunately for them, our district doesn't always allocate money for materials correctly. Since the majority of our students are so needy, money is sometimes allocated to the upper grades before the lower grades. This is done partially to lower our HS drop out percentage and prevent students from joining the various neighborhood gangs.
