My students are the sixth, seventh and eighth grade kids that end up in In-School Suspension as the result of a bad decision on their part. My classes vary every day depending on who is in there and how many - it can range from one student to 22. Some are there for one day, while others may be there for ten. We have a 20% special education population and about 30% are military dependents. We currently have at least 65% on free and reduced lunch. They are great kids who really want to learn but many don't have a lot of resources at home. In addition, they don't have a lot of resources in ISS because it isn't considered a top priority for technology. Many of these kids are low academically, mainly due to issues at home and with behavior, and ISS gives them a chance to get some one-on-one mentoring and help with academic as well as social skills.
