My students are 5th graders that are finding the joy in reading. My school was recently honored as a California Distinguished School, after a hefty application process. In the upper grades we are working hard to promote the joy of reading, instead of making it a task or a chore. Last year, my students read over 1200 books collectively and this year we are working towards the same goal. They gained more self-confidence in the ability to choose their own books across a variety of genres. At the end of the year, they said their attitude changed toward reading...they no longer found it a chore and read books that they never would have thought they would enjoy.

About my class
