My students come from low socio-economic families, many of which have never had a parent complete high school, let alone college! Adding to the challenge, most are doing their best to learn English along with the periodic table. My lab is in various states of decay, with some new supplies that I have fought long and hard for, while other areas, such as technology are just beyond what I can do myself. These students are under-served at home and at school. Through all the challenges that life throws at them, they're still incredibly optimistic about their futures. Despite many not having access to a computer at home, they are constantly inquisitive about new technology. These computers will not only help them to learn chemistry, but it will aid them in developing the technology skills they need to face the 21st century job market.
