My kids are superheroes, astronauts, doctors, lawyers, and even the future presidents of the United States. My kids are our future. They come from rough backgrounds, but you wouldn't be able to tell it based on what you see in my class. When they enter my room they are ready to learn. I have a very diverse class of learners. I have some with physical disabilities, learning disabilities, many different cultures ranging from African American, Native American, and Eastern Indian. About a third of my students can read fluently right now. The rest of the class has struggled through the first two weeks of school. We are a Title 1 school in Oklahoma with over 75% free and reduced lunches. Our students have gone through a lot of trauma lately due to a devastating tornado that ripped through our city. They are looking for something to believe in and I want to give that to them by instilling the joy of reading and get them dreaming again.
