My students are 6th and 7th graders from a small, high poverty, rural area in Michigan. School and their teachers are the safe area and the one thing that remains constant in their lives. School gives them the opportunity to have 2 full meals, time with people who love, care and support them, a chance to learn and most importantly a place where they can be themselves.
