My students require many opportunities to move throughout the day in order to gain access to their environment, seek sensory input, remain attention to tasks, and expend extra energy. Traditional seating has been shown to be detrimental to student learning and physical health. Studies have been shown that sensory stimulation is vital to brain development. Active seating has been shown to assist with significant gains in the areas of focus, attention, retention of material, and physical stamina. Active seating classrooms have shown to be especially helpful for students with ADHD, PDD, ASD and Sensory Integration Disorders. These Hokki Stools and bean bag will be used to help increase attention to task, help build core muscles, and allow for students to seek much needed sensory input in an appropriate and meaningful way.
