My students are devoted to their craft and know the value of proper maintenance and care of their instruments; however, we lack cases and other protective materials. We need stick bags for our sticks, a drop cover for our xylophone, and a quad tom case for marching band instead of taping packing blankets around the instruments and hoping for the best. These cases will show my students the true value of their instruments as well as illustrating the need for them to take ownership of their own equipment. Without demonstrating the import of maintenance, students may regard our equipment carelessly and think along the lines of, "Well, no one else is bothering. This doesn't even have a case! Why should I care if it gets dinged up?"
