I teach World Geography and AP Psychology at my alma mater. It brings be great joy to give back to the community that invested so much in me. And I love teaching teenagers. They are opinionated but still impressionable, they take chances but can still accept responsibility, and they are endlessly funny. It hurts my heart when people blindly criticize this new generation of teens. The teenagers I know are bright, enthusiastic, and kind. I teach at a Title 1 high school where more than 80% of the students live in poverty. Their parents work two jobs, extra shifts, and struggle to communicate with teachers who do not speak their language. Despite these challenges and many others, hundreds of students pass through my room each year and they remind me that every life has value and we all deserve hope.
