A majority of my students are from poverty stricken, single parent homes. Our community provides few job opportunities, because most of the industries have disappeared or moved to other towns or countries. Because of this, their life experiences are limited, and for most of them, education as well as their futures are not a top priority. However, our school and district has been and is continually working to empower and enhance the education of our students as well as their futures. For the past four years, our school has implemented a 1:1 initiative, and students in grades fourth-twelfth have a laptop in their possession twenty-four hours a day. We are committed to changing the lives of our students by providing opportunities they would have never experienced before and creating an environment where students, people of the community and teachers are excited about their future. Our school system is not only working for the future of our students, but the future of our community.
