Many of my students have grown up in poverty, attending a local school that has been under-serving them for decades. The school facility itself is new, but the structures for teaching its students are outdated. Although a vast majority of my students are bright and passionate, they have been held down by an expectation of failure. The opportunities for success can be unlocked by one book or class. Hopefully that will provide that for them.
