A new carpet will help my students increase their reading skills during our read to self time. We have a 120 minute reading block time daily. During this time students participate in small group reading, large group instruction, 3 mini lessons, word work centers, read to self, and writing. All these activities require the use of a carpet and or table. Children get to choose where they want to sit during centers and read to self time. My students read to self daily to increase their reading stamina. They also read to a partner as the year goes on. I also read to my students 4 to 5 books a day. Children who are read to often become better readers. It also enhances their imagination. Providing our classroom with a new comfy rug will help the children continue to improve their vocabulary and language skills through reading. It will provide a nice space for my students to enjoy listening to books and make reading a more enjoyable experience.
