I have a special group of boys and girls. The school is located in a close knit community, however even with community support the need is still great, due to federal, state, and local budget cuts. The community is also mostly low income, with many of the students coming from poverty stricken homes. Statistically, the students in my class have the odds stacked against them. It is shown that children from lower income families do not achieve what more economically advantaged students do. My students have a double dose of odds, they are also faced with physical disabilities and learning disabilities. A couple of them are being cared for by other family members, due to abuse and other circumstances.
