I teach a looping class of 19 second grade students in a moderate poverty school in central Florida. There are 500+ students at the school coming from a variety of cultures, backgrounds, and diverse family situations. Within the class there are a variety of academic abilities, but they all have an eagerness to engage in technology. I just moved from a Title I school in my county that had loads of technology in every classroom due to federal funding to a non Title I school where I now have two outdated computers in my classroom. Because I moved, I had to relinquish the iPad previously provided to me. I am at a loss as I used it in literacy activities every day. The school is working hard to provide technology through fundraising, but the process is slow and technology is expensive. For these students to master Common Core Standards, technology is imperative.
