My public school is considered diverse in that its population is evenly split between Hispanic and African-American students. About 97% of the students in my classroom have established English as their second language (Spanish and French being their first) and 100% of them are on free or reduced lunch. Within the walls of the school, I have provided, and am trying to enhance, a welcoming and productive environment for my students. Outside of school, many of my students live in single parent homes where they have experienced abuse, never interacted with technology and experience an environment that does not accommodate their needs.
