I would describe my school as constantly evolving to become what our students need to be successful. With new leadership at various levels in the building, the time is now to continue to put students first and find better ways to help them reach their potential. One major goal is to teach students to be kind to one another. Students and staff greet each other in the hallways and entering and exiting classrooms, but many students still need guidance interacting with one another, especially when pressure from peers forces them to act in ways that are unkind. Students at my middle school are capable of amazing things; it is just that sometimes they get in their own way. Tending to their social and emotional needs is as important as the content they are expected to learn. Students want to be engaged and empowered; problem-based learning is a way to do both.
