Upon arriving to school each day, I am eagerly greeted by many smiling faces. My students love coming to school and they especially love coming to my science room. Most teachers wouldn't believe me, but they actually moan and groan when I tell them class is over and they have to go to their next class! My school is located in rural South Carolina along the infamous I-95 corridor. Coming from this area, my students face incredible challenges. 90% of my students are African-American and all of them qualify for free and reduced lunch. On top of being part of a demographic that has historically been of the lowest achieving, my students face tremendous personal hardships such as the death or incarceration of their parents and being surrounded by substance abuse. But, despite all they face, my students continuously show me that they have all the qualities they need to rise above their situation to achieve their dr
