Our school is located in South El Monte where the majority of students come from high-poverty backgrounds. Ninety-six percent of our students receive free or reduced-price lunch, and many families live below the poverty level. My goal is to provide my students with a safe learning environment where they are free to express themselves and their creativity. Our school has performed poorly in state and district assessments year after year. I strongly believe that these low test scores are attributed to the lack of resources and services that are offered to our students.
