Having this rug in my classroom will mean that my students have a special spot to come together as a whole group. We will use this carpet in so many ways each and every day. In the mornings we will meet on this carpet to set the tone for the day. Each and every student will a personal greeting from their classmates as well as we will play a quick, fun game to wake us up and activate our brains. We will discuss our learning targets to set purpose for our day as well as review our classroom rules and expectations. For our reading block we will meet on this carpet to participate in interactive read alouds as I read out loud to the students. As we read, we will discuss and apply different literacy strategies to our books. After a short period of whole group we will break out into to pairs or small groups to complete independent reading tasks. Different groups of students will have an opportunity to cozy up on the rug to complete their task. During our math block, I will meet students on the carpet for small groups to provide additional support and model our math strategies for our lesson each day. These are just a few ways the rug will be used daily. These examples do not touch the surface of all the many uses the rug will have. Other uses could be during indoor recess for students to play board games on, during holidays or class rewards to watch something on our board, and even small yoga sessions during a brain break. It is clear to see that this rug would be an amazing benefit in our classroom to provide the students a cozy. safe, home like environment.
