My students live in a high poverty rate neighborhood located in Philadelphia and attend a financially strapped school district. They will come to school with the minimal amount of supplies but most of our families cannot afford the much needed calculator. I know my students would be grateful to have their own calculator during class as it permits them to work at their own pace and they would not have to worry about being timed when using the calculator so that it can be passed onto a waiting student.
