I teach music to 700 public school students in grades K-5. Each class sees me once a week. The students at this school love music and love to make music. Many only have the privilege of doing this at school because many of the students live in low-middle income homes with few musical or cultural advantages. At least 40% of our students are on free or reduced priced school breakfasts and lunches. Our school's special emphasis this year is on character education with respect, responsibility, caring, and safety. Music ties in with these because as children share in the responsibility of helping each other make music they learn how to care about and respect others' music-making skills.

About my class
