Our women's soccer team has not had new jerseys in five seasons. In those five seasons, we have played sixty games, had our most winning season and learned to believe in our potential as a team. When I first began coaching at Harrison, the girls wore the men's team's uniforms. It immediately became clear that the borrowed equipment reflected a self-fulfilling idea that our team held less promise. In that first year, we worked hard to fundraise to purchase our first set of women's jerseys. The investment we made played a pivotal role in changing the mindset within the team, as well as the perspectives of outsiders. Looking sharp and unified allowed the girls a sense of belonging on the field, an essential first step to taking on teams from much more affluent backgrounds. We are excited that our program is consistently expanding and improving but to continue this progress, we need a new set of uniforms for our second-season JV team. Our JV program is essential to developing skills for younger players and granting access to a fun-filled environment for more girls. This season, we look to have between 45-50 girls in uniform!
