My classroom is composed of students from an impoverished, rural West Virginia neighborhood, where resources are scarce. They are hard-working, kind, and compassionate, but they lack the materials necessary to keep up with 21st Century mathematics. In addition, many of my students come from homes where the parents are not able to provide resources for learning. Our school is for intermediate aged children in Third through Fifth grades. We strive to provide equal opportunities for all of our students, making math and reading proficiency of high priority. We want our students to be successful in a 21st Century environment that requires strong math skills.
