I have been teaching for the past 16 years and have had the pleasure of working with a diverse population. This year I have a group of motivated and hardworking third grade students who enjoy reading immensely. However, for the majority of them, the books available are not representative of the world they come from or live in. Over the years there has been a demographic shift in my school system and the majority of our classrooms are comprised of students who speak English as a second language. Sadly, there is not always enough money available in our school system for books and other multicultural materials that are necessary to connect our students with their heritage, and each other.

About my class
