I teach a self-contained class in which all of the students receive special education services. Students are often burdened with the social and economic hardships felt by their parents making learning, at times, not easy. My students are diverse and rich with culture but sadly, our district is not funded properly to meet the needs of this wonderful community. Over the past decade we have struggled with tremendously deep cuts to student resources. Sadly these resources often impact the students greatly. The students are motivated, enthusiastic, and full of energy! Whether they are impulsive or sensory-seeking, they are constantly in motion. Rather than reprimand them for something they simply cannot control, I'd like to give them appropriate ways of meeting their needs so they can better focus.
