I work in a suburban/rural high school in the Midwest. We are a mid size school that prides itself on its school spirit and support for each other. My first year I was amazed at how well my special education students were treated by all students in the hallways. The students in our school are the future leaders of the world and I already witness the compassion in each of them. I teach in the Special Education department covering grades 10-12. My classes are social studies, American History, U.S. Government, Biology, Earth Science, and Physics. I will be a second year teacher who has been blessed with an amazing roster of students who enjoy hands on and technical learning activities. My students enjoy laughter and competition between classes. To aid in their engagement, we utilize Edmodo which allows students to post and comment to each other about lessons we are learning. For many students communication is difficult and being able to communicate this way has opened their voices up.
