My students are all English Language Learners. Many of them are refugees coming to America to feel safe and achieve the American dream. 99% of the schools population receives free or reduced lunch. It is a very low SES inner city area, where students wonder if their basic needs will be met on a daily basis. They also struggle with violence at home, acclimating to a new place and poverty. It is very challenging for them at only 5 years old to deal with these life challenges as well as be successful in school.
